What is Choose Your Own Adventure?
It's a platform of interactive stories where you decide how the plot moves forward. You read (or live) a story and, at the key moments, you choose between several options that change the course of what happens. You can play on your own at your own pace or in a group with other people, voting together on each decision. There's a catalog of free stories to get started and a premium catalog with exclusive stories.
Do I need to create an account to play?
To play the stories and save your progress you need a free account. Creating the account costs nothing and gives you immediate access to all the free stories, both in solo mode and in multiplayer games you join with a code.
What languages is it available in?
The platform is available in 6 languages: Spanish, English, French, German, Italian, and Portuguese. You can switch languages from the menu selector. Stories are published in translation so you can enjoy them in your own language.
Playing solo and in a group
Can I play on my own?
Yes. In solo mode you pick a story and move forward at your own pace: you make all the decisions, with no rush and without depending on anyone. Your progress is saved so you can pick the adventure back up whenever you like.
How does multiplayer mode work?
One person acts as the host and creates a game from the story they choose. When they create it, a code is generated that they share with whoever they want to invite. The other players enter the game by typing in that code and pick a nickname to identify themselves. From there you move the story forward together, deciding as a group at each fork.
How many people can play in the same game?
Up to 200 players can join the same game with the host's code. It's great both for playing among friends and for large sessions with lots of people deciding at once.
How are the options decided when we play in a group?
At each fork a 30-second vote opens. During that time each player picks the option they prefer and, when the countdown ends, the story continues along the most-voted option. That keeps the adventure moving at a brisk pace even when there are many of you.
Free, premium, and payments
What's the difference between free and premium stories?
Free stories are available to any account, at no cost. Premium stories are exclusive content: to play them you need an active premium subscription or to have bought that specific story with a one-time payment. You can join a premium game as a guest if the host is the one who has access.
How much does it cost and what payment options are there?
There are two options. The premium subscription costs €9.99 a month and gives you unlimited access to the entire premium catalog while it's active, plus the ability to create premium games. If you're only interested in one story, you can buy it with a one-time payment of €3.99 and keep permanent access to it. Prices are in euros and taxes are calculated at checkout through Stripe. Payment is processed with Stripe (credit or debit card); there's no free trial or annual plan.
Can I buy a single story instead of subscribing?
Yes. Each premium story can be unlocked with a one-time payment of €3.99 and access to that story is permanent, with no subscription. The purchase is made from the story's own page. If you'd rather have unlimited access to the entire premium catalog, the €9.99-a-month subscription pays off after a few stories.
Can I request a refund?
We don't offer refunds. Both the premium subscription and individual story purchases are digital content available immediately, so purchases are non-refundable once made. If you cancel the subscription, you keep premium access until the end of the period you already paid for and after that you're not charged again.
Why do you ask me to tick a box before paying?
Since the content is digital and we give you access immediately, the law requires us to obtain your express consent before we begin. By ticking the box at the time of payment you confirm that you want to access the content immediately and that, by doing so, you waive your right of withdrawal. That's why, once we give you access, the purchase is non-refundable.
Devices and privacy
What devices can I play on? Is there an app?
For now the platform works as a responsive website: it looks and plays well from the browser of your computer, tablet, or phone, with nothing to install. There's no native app for iOS or Android; everything is done from the web, so you just open the site and log in on whichever device you prefer.
What do you do with my personal data?
We only process the data needed for the platform to work: your account, your progress, and the payment data, which Stripe handles securely (we don't store your card number). We don't sell your data to third parties. You can find all the details in our Privacy Policy.
